Mt. Granya activation

On Saturday 4 May 2024 a few ARARC members activated Mt. Granya. Most people got there around 10am, except Mike who took the scenic drive via Mt.Beauty.

VK3GAZ, VK2TCM and VK3ERW set up portable HF stations with various antennas, radios and battery configurations, all operating QRP. VK2JMJ brought some 2mt beams to work distant repeaters. VK2AEC, VK2GS and Marko (latest member to join AWARC) cast their eye over the various setups and observed operations on the day. Around midday Gary activated his BBQ and everyone enjoyed a good lunch before commencing the afternoon session and waiting for the DX to improve.

By 2pm we could hear numerous EU stations but our QRP wasn’t enough to overcome the stronger stations. By the end of the day every station had made numerous contacts. The park was activated, Tony worked ZL on 15mt and Gary logged a contact with Luxembourg.

A good time was had by all, everyone went home with some achievements in their log book and improvement ideas for the next activation.
